2016 and 2017 have been good years for the Bel Mar Coin Club.
As we celebrated our 49th year, and now begin our 50th year as a Coin Club, we have seen renewed interest in the hobby, and visitors to our Club Meetings each month.
We have added several new members recently and look forward to adding even more in the near future.
Our Annual Coin Show is coming up on Saturday June 10, 2017!
We have a full day scheduled with lots of Coin Dealers committed to showing and selling their collections plus snacks and food and fun for the whole family!
Hope to see you there!
On October 17, 2016 at the Regular Bel Mar Coin Club Meeting in Aberdeen, Maryland, the Club will celebrate 49 years in existence and kick off a year of celebration as we anticipate a BIG 50th Anniversary Bash in October 2017!
The Officers of the Club have been working hard the last few months going over archive materials from the years gone by, and one of the things we expect to roll out during our 50th year will be a collection of some of the best memories of the Club’s History.
Our VP ordered and received souvenir Mugs for the Coin Club and they are available now at our regular meetings for the cost of the mug. (around $5)
Stay tuned for lots of updates over the coming year, as we will be sharing stories about our History and about our plans for the Future! The Club has been experiencing consistent growth over the last several months with guests and new members at almost every meeting.
If you collect coins, or just want to know more about the Hobby, come on out to a Meeting. Details and contact information can be found on the “About Us” Page.
AND – each Month we put a copy of the Auction Sheet on that Page too.
This Post will surely stir up some debate!
As an official Club Announcement: I polled the Officers of Bel Mar Coin Club, and each one said they do NOT believe in cleaning their coins.
BUT – Coin World Magazine did a Survey, and the results may very well surprise you!
Here is the Title of their Article and the Author and a link to the Coin World website to read it there, if you like:
Preserving Collectibles: Hobbyists queried on coin cleaning, coating, toning, patination
By Susan L. Maltby , Special to Coin World
Published : 08/17/2016
Below are the Surprising Results of the Survey Susan Maltby conducted for her article:
NOTE – this is the 3rd time the Survey has been taken, and the results show the changes in attitude about cleaning coins over the years.
||1992 Yes answers
||2006 Yes answers
||2016 Yes answers
|Do you clean your coins
|Do you Tone or Patinate
|Do you Coat your coins
These results were quite surprising to me!
I did not expect such a high percentage of “Yes” answers.
How about you?
- What are your thoughts about the Results?
- What are your thoughts about cleaning your own coins?
- If you received this Survey, how would you have answered the questions?
Please leave your answers in the Comments. Thank you!
Bel Mar Coin Club has been adding new members and seeing new visitors at each regular monthly Club Meeting. Our 2016 Coin Show had very good attendance, and each of the Dealers represented at the Show had favorable comments about the number of people who came out to the Annual Coin Show.
If you live in Harford County, or within driving distance of Aberdeen, consider visiting one month. We meet the 3rd Monday of each month beginning at 7:00 pm. Monthly meetings usually last 90 minutes and include updates on Club News from the Officers, the Club Treasurer’s report, Special announcements or presentations, snacks, and a lively Coin Auction.
Several members usually have coins or coin books on display, and you will be sure to learn something new about Coin Collecting / Numismatics at each meeting. Bel Mar Coin Club is approaching our 50th year anniversary as a registered Coin Club in Maryland. We are participating members in the ANA, and promoters of the Hobby around the State.
If you are currently a Coin Collector, or if you would like to learn more about the Hobby, make plans to attend a meeting at the Grove Presbyterian Church on Monday evening July 18th, or any 3rd Monday evening. There is more information on the About Us Page or the Auction Sheet Page. You can also send us a comment on this website, or use the About Us Page to get in touch with our Club President, Scott Schubert.
