Minting Coins – then and now!

One of our Members shared these 2 Videos to enlighten us on just how much the Coin Minting Process has changed in the last few generations. The first video is from 1940 and gives an historical reference of coin making in the USA from its’ inception. The second video is from 2015 and shows the same Mint and the process of making Quarters today. You may be surprised at the difference!

The Bel Mar Coin Club is growing!

2016 and 2017 have been good years for the Bel Mar Coin Club.

As we celebrated our 49th year, and now begin our 50th year as a Coin Club, we have seen renewed interest in the hobby, and visitors to our Club Meetings each month.

We have added several new members recently and look forward to adding even more in the near future.

Our Annual Coin Show is coming up on Saturday June 10, 2017!

We have a full day scheduled with lots of Coin Dealers committed to showing and selling their collections plus snacks and food and fun for the whole family!

49 Years and counting…..

On October 17, 2016 at the Regular Bel Mar Coin Club Meeting in Aberdeen, Maryland, the Club will celebrate 49 years in existence and kick off a year of celebration as we anticipate a BIG 50th Anniversary Bash in October 2017!

The Officers of the Club have been working hard the last few months going over archive materials from the years gone by, and one of the things we expect to roll out during our 50th year will be a collection of some of the best memories of the Club’s History.

Our VP ordered and received souvenir Mugs for the Coin Club and they are available now at our regular meetings for the cost of the mug. (around $5)

Stay tuned for lots of updates over the coming year, as we will be sharing stories about our History and about our plans for the Future! The Club has been experiencing consistent growth over the last several months with guests and new members at almost every meeting.

If you collect coins, or just want to know more about the Hobby, come on out to a Meeting. Details and contact information can be found on the “About Us” Page.

To Clean, or Not to Clean…that is the question!

This Post will surely stir up some debate!

As an official Club Announcement:  I polled the Officers of Bel Mar Coin Club, and each one said they do NOT believe in cleaning their coins.

BUT – Coin World Magazine did a Survey, and the results may very well surprise you!

Below are the Surprising Results of the Survey Susan Maltby conducted for her article:

NOTE – this is the 3rd time the Survey has been taken, and the results show the changes in attitude about cleaning coins over the years.

Do you clean your coins 75% 60% 65%
Do you Tone or Patinate 15% 4% 18%
Do you Coat your coins 19% 3% 14%

 

These results were quite surprising to me!

I did not expect such a high percentage of “Yes” answers.
